Two ways to start
On the home screen, choose Start with a melody to sing first and get chords afterwards, or Start with chords to pick a chord progression and sing over a band.
Before you record
- Tempo: use the slider or the − and + buttons, or tap the Tap button a few times at the speed you feel. Press Preview to hear the metronome. Voicephere remembers your last tempo.
- Time signature: 4/4, 3/4 or 6/8. The number of dots on the recording screen follows it.
- Bars on screen: how many bars you see while recording.
- Accompaniment style: acoustic ballad or piano pop. You can change it later.
When everything is set, press Get ready to record.
Wear headphones
The metronome and the band play only in your headphones, so they stay out of your recording. Recording is available once headphones are connected.
Bluetooth headphones add a short delay. Voicephere corrects for it and moves the bouncing ball to match, but wired headphones are the most accurate.
Recording
- Press the red Record button. One bar of count-in plays first; anything you sing during it is kept, so pickup notes are not lost.
- Follow the bouncing ball: there is one dot per beat, and the ball lands on each beat as you hear it.
- Your waveform appears as you sing. At the end of the last bar on screen, the page turns and continues on the left.
- Press Done when you finish. Voicephere finds the chords for you.
Your timing is yours: Voicephere never stretches or moves your voice.
Chords and band
- Press Play to hear your voice with the band. The bar being played lights up.
- Tap any bar to choose a different chord from the list of 24 major and minor chords.
- Switch between acoustic ballad and piano pop at the top. The arrangement updates by itself.
- Press Share to send the demo as an audio file.
Starting with chords
Choose a key, then open the Chord progression menu. The 100 progressions are grouped as Pop, Ballad, Classic, Bright, Moody and Dramatic. Press Preview band to hear it. While you record, the chord of the current bar and the next one appear under the dots.
My ideas
Every take is saved under My ideas on the home screen. Tap one to open it. To delete one, swipe it to the left and tap the trash can, or press and hold it and choose Delete.
iCloud sync
Open Settings (the gear at the top left) and turn on iCloud sync. Your ideas are kept in your own private iCloud storage and appear on every iPhone and iPad signed in to the same Apple Account. Deleting an idea removes it from all of them.
Subscription
Voicephere is available by subscription, monthly or yearly. New subscribers can try it free for 7 days. Payment is handled by Apple and the subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
To change or cancel, open Settings > Subscription > Manage subscription in Voicephere, or go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your iPhone. On a new device, use Restore purchases.
Language
Voicephere follows your device language. To choose another, tap the globe at the top right of the home screen, or use Settings > Language.
If something goes wrong
- Recording doesn't start: check that headphones are connected and that Voicephere may use the microphone (Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone).
- “Not enough singing was heard”: sing a little closer to the microphone and for at least a couple of bars.
- Ideas don't appear on another device: make sure both are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud sync is on in Voicephere's Settings.
